
Wellsburg Kiwanis Club selling bouquets of roses, apple pies
WELLSBURG — The Wellsburg Kiwanis Club is selling bouquets of roses and apple pies through Sept. 21.
The cost is $7 for four small apple pies in a box, $18 for a dozen roses and $25 for both. To order them, call (304) 737-1579, (304) 737-2255 or any Kiwanis Club member.
The orders may be picked up from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Chambers Funeral Home parking lot at 1030 Main St., Wellsburg.
Steubenville High School Class of 1972 reunion set for Oct. 8
STEUBENVILLE — Members of Steubenville High School’s Class of 1972 will be holding their 50-year ruenion on Oct. 8 at Scaffidi’s Restaurant and Tavern in Steubenville.

‘Fatherhood’ movie showing Sept. 23 at Follansbee Library

National Comic Book Day
to be celebrated on Sept. 24
WELLSBURG — The Brooke County Public Library and its Follansbee branch will be celebrating National Comic Book Day by distributing a free comic book to each patron who requests one, while supplies last on Sept. 24.
The comics will be offered to visitors of all ages.
Brooke Class of 1972 having
50-year reunion set for Oct. 1
WELLSBURG — Brooke High School’s Class of 1972 will hold its 50-year class reunion on Oct. 1 at Undo’s in Weirton.
It begins with a gathering from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with drinks and appetizers. The class picture by Newbrough’s Studio will be taken at 7 p.m. The dinner buffet starts at 7:30 p.m. D.J. Nin will be playing all evening.

W.Va. SMART529 scholarship
drawings to begin Oct. 1
CHARLESTON — In celebration of the 20th anniversary of West Virginia’s SMART529 college savings program, State Treasurer Riley Moore, the West Virginia College board of trustees and Jumpstart Savings Programs have announced drawings will be held for a $20,000 SMART529 scholarship in October, November and December.
Parents and legal guardians of children age 14 and younger on Aug. 10 and may enter them to win and multiple children from the same household may be entered.
Children born after Aug. 10 aren’t eligible.
Both parent or legal guardian and child must be West Virginia residents, and only one entry per child will be accepted.
The deadlines to enter are Oct. 1 for the October drawing, Oct. 29 for the November drawing and Dec. 3 for the December drawing, with all non-winning entries carried over to the next drawing.
