
An Edmond coffee shop is being forced to relocate after the landlord decided not to renew the lease.Michelle Hargrave, the owner, said she will literally have to pick up her shop and leave. For the last 16 years, the coffee shop has been her livelihood.”Being a small business owner, sometimes the little guy gets stomped on, and I think that’s what’s happening here,” Hargrave said.Just this week, she received an unexpected message”Never in a million years did I expect to get a notice to vacate. I have 40 days,” Hargrave said.She has until the end of August to leave the area off Broadway and Waterloo in Edmond. She told KOCO 5 what the landlord told her.”Am I able to negotiate? Do I need to increase rent? And I was told, it’s a done deal, the lease has already been signed, and is non-negotiable,” Hargrave said.Hargrave said she owns the building but the landlord owns the land under it so she will have to physically pick up the building and move it somewhere else.On the coffee shop’s Facebook page, lots of people have commented new locations for the shop, suggesting different spots down Waterloo and in the Edmond area.KOCO 5 reached out to the commercial property ownership group and they told us they would help her find a new location to move her business.”It supports my family. I’m a single mom, with a son in middle school, and my daughter also works here,” Hargrave said.There are lots of unknowns and the clock is ticking.”We may have to close down, indefinitely, until I get everything situated,” Hargrave said.
